Mestre Didi

Deoscoredes Maximiniano dos Santos was born in 1917 in Salvador, Bahia. Master Didi is considered one of Brazil’s greatest babalorishas [high priests in Afro-Brazilian religion]. He is son of the legendary Bahian yalorisha Mãe Senhora (Maria Bibiana do Espirito Santo). His works, which achieved enormous repercussion and are found in top Brazilian and European museum collections, are inspired by the religious objects from the Nagô tradition. He is both an artist and author of several books written in original and careful fashion in order to incorporate and convey all the wealth of the oral language.
