Life Cycle

Birth, life, death and love are themes that, since the beginning of time, appear in different cultures, regardless of cultural, geographical or social frontiers. Consequently, they are considered universal themes. In folk art, these dominant themes can be surprising in the representation of everyday events and ceremonies, repeated in each new generation. So birth, childhood, education, Catholic sacraments (baptism, confirmation and confession), private parties, local balls (e.g., forró, June and other events), in addition to weddings and their festivities, are perceived as complementary and successive events that, shown together, seem to comprise the whole.
