In traditional peripheral or rural societies with little industrialisation, sewing, spinning, embroidering, cooking, childcare, animal husbandry and food processing (mashing corn, flour milling, etc.) are tasks mostly attributed to women. With the increase in gender awareness and spread of urban customs and habits, changes in society have occurred, albeit traces still remain in the folk art.
