Calango dance

The calango is a type of challenge where two poet-musicians play side by side singing or reciting verses from memory or improvisation during a dance or show, while at the same time playing musical instruments such as the eight-bass button accordion, viola, tambourine or triangle. While the couples dance they are entertained by the verses, very often satirical. It is a fairly common amusement in the countryside, and may occur at any celebration or party, such as, for example, after collective work or completing some job that requires the participation of many workers. This is why the expression is used sometimes as a synonym for a dance or party.
