Teca

Maurina Pereira dos Santos, known as Teca, was born on 3 December 1946 in the vicinity of Santana do Araçuaí, municipality of Ponto dos Volantes, Minas Gerais State. She learned to model clay when she moved to the town to study more than 30 years ago. There she was taught by Placidina Fernandes do Nascimento, her neighbour at the time. After the latter’s death, artist Dona Isabel began teaching her how to make the figures, a type of work she enjoyed more. Teca taught the art of clay to her daughter Gilda and daughter-in-law Aneli. Her works have already been exhibited in Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.
